Speech & Language Therapy

We understand each child is different and we take into consideration what is important to you and your family when we create our treatment plans. We connect with our clients in a way that they look forward to seeing us each time we come, because our therapy plans are fun and engaging. We talk about what we are working on and why, because research shows that when children know what they are expected to do, they perform better. They also get to see their progress over time and gain confidence when they start mastering certain skills.

Our therapy sessions range from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the needs of the child and the evaluation results. All sessions are completed in a one-on-one manner. We encourage the family and siblings to participate when appropriate to help the child be able to work at home with someone other than the SLP outside of therapy time. We will see the fastest progress when you are on board and able to help with short homework tasks throughout the week. Even 10 minutes a day of practice can make a difference!

Speech Therapy

We work with children with a variety of disorders, including phonological disorders, articulation disorders, Apraxia of Speech, cleft palates, velopharyngeal incompetency, Down Syndrome, stuttering, cluttering, hearing impairments (deaf or hard of hearing), and more.

Speech therapy for children with articulation and phonological disorders works on a child’s abilities to pronounce the sounds in words and conversation correctly. This will look a lot like talking about where the sounds are made in the mouth and how. We like to use the Lively Letters program which is a fun way to talk (and sing!) about each sound and how it is made in the mouth.

Speech therapy for children with fluency disorders like stuttering works on a few different things. We use a whole person approach to address the many different aspects of stuttering. The goal is to get a child to be able to speak smoother with less tension and to feel confident about how they speak in various situations.

Language Therapy

We work with children with a variety of disorders, including Autism, Down Syndrome, speech delays, developmental language disorders, ADHD, Specific Learning Disorders, Dyslexia, hearing impairments (deaf or heard of hearing), intellectual disabilities, selective mutism, traumatic brain injuries, and more.

Language therapy works on a few different areas of language, from the way a child is able to understand the language you say, to the way a child is able to express himself using the appropriate words and sentences.

Specifically this can mean we work on things like following directions, understanding words, using words, saying sentences, using the appropriate grammar in sentences, learning new vocabulary, answering questions appropriately, telling a story in order, writing sentences and paragraphs, reading and sounding out words, and learning how to interact in a socially appropriate manner with others. The specific things that your child will work on during therapy will depend the results of the evaluation and your goals for your child.
